Frank Lampard will not play in next week's
Major League Soccer All-Star Game against
Tottenham Hotspur because of nagging calf
strain ,the league announced Saturday,
Lampard has yet to make his debut for New
York City because of the lingering injury
suffered in training just over a week ago.
The 37 year old midfielder ,who spent 13
trophy -laden years at Chelsea which included
a Champions League victory in 2012 and the
Europa League a year later ,was made a
special commissioner's selection to the MLS
all-star squad along with former England
team -mate Steven Gerrard of the Los Angeles
Galaxy ,Lampard was also chosen for the
matches day roster.
Lampard who scored seven goals in 33
English Premier league matches against
Tottenham ,has twice played in the MLS
All-Star Game when Chelsea faced the
elite US league squard ,The MLS team
won 1-0 in2006 and beat Chelsea 3-2 in
2012,when Lampard scored one goal
and set up the other,
Garber named New York Red Bull
captain Dax McCarty as a replacement
for Lmapard against the Spurs, giving
the decade-long MLS veteran his first
All-Star nod,
