PAL said Flight PR101 had 132 passengers onboard. At least 17 passengers sustained minor injuries due to clear air turbulence during the flight to Manila.
Clear air turbulence occurs when bodies of air meet at different speeds. Any aircraft caught between the conflicting movements of air masses could lose control of its altitude.
PAL said a team of medical personnel, airport officials and the carrier’s customer relations officers were deployed at the Terminal 2 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport to provide assistance to passengers.
“I thought it was the end of the world for me,” remarked one of the passengers, Prodencia Gira.
Gira said the plane suddenly started shaking and fell for about 10 seconds.he said she felt weightless for a moment, but hit her head on the ceiling when the plane started falling.
Theresita Reyes of Caloocan City said she also hit the ceiling of the plane during the turbulence.
PAL said two of the 17 passengers were brought to a hospital to undergo x-ray examinations for neck injuries.
