Lee Kuan Yew's death at the age of 91 on March 23 after a prolonged stay in hospital due to severe pneumonia triggered an unprecedented outpouring of grief among Singaporeans
Singapore’s founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew may be gone, but many Singaporeans are marking what would have been his 92nd birthday on Wednesday.
Just a week after a resounding victory at the polls, the ruling People's Action Party, posted a tribute on its Facebook page, saying that they would like to take a moment on the the day “to remember him and recognise how Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s determination and vision contributed to this beautiful Singapore we know today”.
The post, which garnered 11,000 Likes in four hours, ended with a “Thank you, Mr Lee Kuan Yew”.
Many Facebook users posted birthday wishes in the comment section. One person spoke about how the late Lee has been dearly missed.
“I missed him too and his excellent speeches whenever he spoke to the public. His speeches were and still full of wisdom. I think the best way to remember Mr Lee Kuan Yew is by continuing to work hard as one united people and keep our system clean regardless of public or private sectors,” said one fan.
