He expressed appreciation for the “unconditional support” of farmers toward the Barisan Nasional government when launching the Annual General Assembly of the National Farmers Organisation (NAFAS) last night, saying that Umno would continue to aid the industry.
“I will consider [the requests of NAFAS] appropriately. I cannot elaborate here, but perhaps it is considered for the upcoming Budget,” he told the crowd here in his speech tonight.
“Allow me to reserve what I have to say for my Budget speech on October 23.”
He told the crowd that the farming industry has always received government support and achieved much success with it, and that the government would continue to renew its contracts with NAFAS in accordance to its continued growth.
“With the success of farmers with all the assistance they receive as mentioned by the agriculture minister beforehand, not a single farmer from anywhere in Malaysia can say that they have never received anything from the Umno and Barisan Nasional government,” he said. His speech came after that of NAFAS chair Datuk Seri Saipolbahari Suib who requested that the government, with its earnings from the Goods and Services Tax (GST), consider sponsoring 28 people to perform the hajj annually, a RM500 touch-point allocation for every farmer, and a senator’s post for a representative of NAFAS, among others.
