KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 - The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) must be allowed to resume its investigations into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) to ensure that the public receives answers about the state investment firm, MCA said today.
MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong also made a commitment today that his party will “supervise” the 1MDB issue byfirst giving Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak the time and space to adequately explain away all questions on the indebted company.
“Therefore since our prime minister has promised to deal with 1MDB issue within six months, we should give him time and space to deal with the problem.
“We will supervise the entire process to ensure a final settlement, which includes insistence on the Public Accounts Committee to continue the investigation,” he said during the MCA Youth AGM here today.Wee denied that MCA has remained silent on issues plaguing the country and instead urged investigators to remain impartial when looking into the books of 1MDB.
“We also want the relevant authorities to handle this matter impartially. If anyone runs afoul of the law, he must be brought to justice,” the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said.
Wee also touched on the RM2.6 billion political donation that Najib received, but merely said that he “believed” Najib would “make further explanation (sic)”.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Datuk Seri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, the Conference of Malay Rulers said that investigations into 1MDB must be made public in order to show that nothing was being hidden in the probe on the state-owned investment firm.
PAC’s investigations into 1MDB were suspended when four members of the parliamentary committee, including the chairman, were appointed to government in a Cabinet reshuffle last July, as they were required to vacate their posts in the PAC.
