Bring it on, Guan Eng says of PAS’s plan to contest DAP seats

The Penang lawmaker even invited PAS to contest in his state constituency of Air Putih.

“If PAS wants to contest in DAP seats, I will start by inviting them to contest for my constituency in Air Putih,” the DAP secretary-general said.

The Penang chief minister was responding to a statement by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang who said over the weekend that PAS is planning to contest in seats held by DAP in the next general election to counter PAS splinter party Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).

Abdul Hadi was reported in Mingguan Malaysia yesterday as saying that since Amanah plans to field candidates in PAS seats, PAS will in turn field non-Malay members from its Supporters Congress (DHPP) in non-Malay dominated seats like those held by the DAP.Lim said all political parties have the right to contest in any constituency during the general election.

He stressed, however, that with PAS now voicing its intention to clash with the DAP in the next polls, this ultimately confirms that reconciliation between both parties is no longer an option.

“They can even go to DAP strongholds, that’s their right in a democracy but it is very clear that our policies and struggles are now on different pages,” he added.

As for PKR deputy president Azmin Ali’s suggestion that PAS be allowed to join the new federal opposition pact despite the fallout between PAS and DAP, Lim said it was no longer possible for DAP to be in the same coalition with PAS.

“They are now going to contest against us in the elections so how can we be a part of the same coalition?” he asked.

He also claimed that stating its intention to contest DAP seats was PAS’s way of treating DAP as their main enemy and also to give an advantage to Barisan Nasional (BN).

“Unlike PAS, our main enemies are BN, Umno and corruption so we will not take steps to contest in PAS seats, we will look at the situation first,” he said.
