KLUANG: A traffic policewoman succumbed to her injuries after she was run over by motorcyclist in a road block at Km58 Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing early yesterday.
Inspector Margaret Tagom Goen, 32, had sustained severe internal injuries and broke her hip and arm due to the impact after a teenage motorcyclist rammed into her in the 2.40am incident.
Kluang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Laham said Margaret died at 12.45pm at the intensive care unit of the Enche Besar Hajjah Kalsom hospital, here.
Margeret was with 20 other traffic police personnel who were conducting the Op Roda/Rempit following information police received about illegal races being held in the area.
Muhamad said the 17-year-old motorcyclist tried to escape the road block but rammed into Margaret.
"The rider of the motorcycle was a 17 year old teenager who was also injured," he said.
"Police detained the motorcyclist. Six other motorcyclists aged between 14 and 20 were detained in a follow up operation at 6am today," he said. None of them had a motorcycle licence.
