KUALA LUMPUR: Police have formed a special task force to investigate the mysterious disappearance of prominent deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Kevin Anthony Morais.
City police Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad said they are still working to ascertain what had happened to Morais, who is the deputy head of the Appellate and Trial Division of the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
"We have yet to find him (Morais)... There was also no evidence found, yet, to link the burnt car (found in Hutan Melintang, Perak) to the Proton Perdana he was driving.
"City police have set up a special task force to investigate the case," he said in a Whatsapp message earlier today. It was reported that Morais went missing after leaving his Menara Duta apartment for work at 9am on Friday.
His disappearance had puzzled investigators, while the finding of the burnt car, believed to be a Proton Perdana which was the same model as the one used by Morais in an oil palm plantation at Hutan Melintang on Sunday, had fuelled speculation that something bad had befell the DPP.
It was reported that police were facing difficulties to identify the owner of the burnt vehicle as its chassis and engine numbers had been filed off.
