The appreciation dinner in honour of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin scheduled for tonight in Cheras was postponed to another date after taking into consideration tomorrow's Supreme Council meeting.
Bandar Tun Razak division deputy chief Datuk Saharudin Zainal Abidin said the decision was made after much deliberation during a meeting last Friday.
"It was a decision made at the division level considering the fact that the Supreme Council meeting is to be held tomorrow.
"We think it is only appropriate to push the dinner to another date," Saharudin said tonight.
He said the dinner was supposed to be held at the International Youth Centre in Cheras.
"It's not only an appreciation dinner for Tan Sri Muhyiddin but also 14 other Umno leaders at the division level," he explained.
He added that the appreciation dinner is an annual event to celebrate Umno leaders who have done a lot for the party.
Saharudin said they will wait for the outcome of the meeting tomorrow before deciding on the date for the dinner.
"We do not know what will happen but if Tan Sri Muhyiddin were to be sacked, we have to remove his name from the list. It is not that we do not want to invite him but it is stated in the party constitution,he said.
Saharudin said that Muhyiddin has been informed about the postponement and the division leader had also met him personally today to inform him again on the matter.
Muhyiddin's removal as deputy prime minister and education minister in a Cabinet reshuffle in July 28 appears to have plunged Umno into a crisis.
His ouster came days after he openly told Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to explain the allegations surrounding the debt-ridden state owned investment firm 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
Other Umno leaders removed from the Cabinet were vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal and supreme council member Datuk Hasan Malek.
Rumour is rife that several Umno senior leaders, including Muhyiddin and Shafie, would be sacked from the party at tomorrow's meeting.
This was however denied today by Umno vice-president, and current deputy prime minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. – September 8, 2015.
