The Penangite who survived the Monday blast arrived home by bus around noon today but was gracious enough to speak to reporters gathered at his house in Taman Dedap, despite being in visible shock.
Retelling the day in Hokkien, the 55-year-old said he was kneeling
to place joss sticks at the Erawan shrine when suddenly there was a “boom”.
The next thing he knew, everyone was lying on the ground in pools of blood. When he finally got up, his first thought was to look for his family.
He found his daughter, Yee Ling; she had stood near him before the explosion and survived.
“Next we found my son-in-law, but he was unconscious so I'm not sure if he's still alive or not, all I know was that we kept calling his name and then we found my wife and at that time, she's still alive, she got up and told me she's very tired," he said.
After that, he saw his son, Jai Jun, and he knew at a glance that the 20-year-old was already dead.
"At the time, the whole situation was very chaotic. I was too confused and didn't know what to do, so I broke down and started screaming," Hock Guan said.
What he experience still feels like a dream to him, he said.
I don't know what to feel now, even if I'm not okay, I have to be okay," he said.
Hock Guan lost his wife, Lim Saw Gek, 49, son Neoh Jai Jun, son-in-law Lee Tze Siang and four-year-old granddaughter Lee Jing Xuan.
His wife’s sister Lim Su See, 52, is still missing.
His daughter Yee Ling is expected to arrive home tonight together with the remains of those who were killed in the blast.
A wake will be held for all four deceased before the funeral this Friday.
