SEGAMAT: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said a conspiracy to topple the government was real and not a made-up 'sandiwara' (drama).
While criticising anyone who accused the matter as hearsay, Zahid said the information he received about the plot was verified.
"The opposition wanted to present a motion for a vote of no confidence against the Prime Minister and they wanted up to 40 Barisan Nasional members of Parliament to sign a statutory declaration to support the motion.
"They wanted to form a unity government with the Umno leader that I told you about as the Prime Minister and two deputy prime ministers from PKR and DAP," said Zahid in a speech when opening the Sekijang Umno division delegates meeting here.
Also present was Sekijang Umno chief Datuk Baharum Mohamad.
Last week, Zahid said that he was informed that there is an effort to overthrow the government led by an Umno leader who was working with the opposition.
He then said that the Umno leader was supposed to meet with Najib last Sunday. The leader did not show up.
