SHAH ALAM: Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali's failure in providing satisfactory explanation on the reason behind state investment arm, Darul Ehsan Investment Group's (DEIG) establishment shows that there is a possible hidden agenda.
Selangor Barisan Nasional Assemblymen secretary Budiman Mohd Zohdi said Azmin has failed to answer questions on what necessitated DEIG's establishment when the state already has Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) which has better structure, is more transparent and could be improved to serve additional roles.
This he said, is a cause of great worry as DEIG is managing about RM30 billion worth of Selangor's assets, previously managed by MBI.
"Seperti ada udang di sebalik batu (there seems to be a hidden agenda). Why couldn't he answer simple questions which I asked on behalf of the rakyat with facts?" he said in a press conference, here, today.
Budiman, who is also Sungai Panjang assemblyman, said not one of Azmin's answers so far has justified DEIG's establishment as it is still just a Sendirian Berhad company, unlike MBI which was set up under the state enactment and is therefore accountable to the state assembly.
He also highlighted the Select Committee on Government Agencies, Statutory Bodies and State Government Subsidiary Companies's (JP-Abas) finding that both DEIG's chief executive officer (CEO) Raja Shahreen Raja Othman and chief operating officer Soffan Affendi Aminuddin were not selected through an open appointment process.
