PKR deputy president Azmin Ali disclosed that PAS had agreed to support a vote of no confidence against the prime minister. — File picKUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 — PAS has agreed to support a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said today.
He claimed that PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had met with PAS representatives this morning and they have agreed to support the vote of no confidence
“We have had a series of discussions with all the opposition political parties. Today morning, PKR president Wan Azizah had a meeting and discussion with PAS,” he said when met at the Dewan Rakyat lobby.
“Alhamdulliah on the concept of being together, we have agreed to put forth a motion of no confidence on the prime minister,” he added.
The Gombak MP, however, said the details on the PAS-PKR deal have yet to be ironed out though he assured that it will be done soon.
“However when and how, we will need to discuss further because this is a question of strategy that we need to plan and structure properly.
“But we will make sure it fulfils the Parliament convention,” Azmin added. The Selangor Menteri Besar described PAS’ response as “forthcoming”, and added that they have also been approached by a few government backbenchers.
Azmin declined to reveal more details regarding the Barisan Nasional MPs they have purportedly spoken to, but stressed that the backbenchers should lend their support for the motion as the country is now in a time of crisis.
“There is some but this is strategy. If I tell, it defeats it. We realise we need a comfortable number to make this motion happen, we are working towards that.
“We will see. I don’t want to make any conclusion now but this is the best time for MPs including from BN to support this motion if they believe that the country needs a stronger leadership to restore back the confidence of the investors
“Otherwise, let the public punish them if they decide to condone the situation now. The Rakyat will punish them in the next general election,” Azmin said.
Yesterday, Pakatan Harapan confirmed that Dr Wan Azizah will be filing a notice to Parliament on the no confidence motion against Najib some time this week.
The motion is to replace the previous one filed by PKR MP Hee Loy Sian. Hee’s motion, which was filed over a week ago, is currently listed as the 27th item out of 28 in the motions for debate today
