Bond unbroken even in death

CHIANG MAI, Dec 23 — It was a heart-wrenching scene at the site of the bus crash yesterday as family members of those who perished crumbled to their knees and cried out to their loved ones.
“Papa, go home and don’t wait here,” yelled a girl in her 20s as she wiped tears from her face.
Members of nine families arrived at the scene near Ban Fang village at about 4pm and stood outside the crash site, which was cordoned off by yellow police tape.
At the mangled wreckage lodged between bamboo trees and huge boulders, monks carried out prayers and proceeded to encircle the site with white string.Joss sticks were lit and placed at the scene by the family members.
Villagers from nearby villages also came to pay their respects to the deceased by leaving offerings at the site.
The crash site where where 13 people died, with nine injured, along Km43 of Thailand’s Highway 118 en route to Chiang Rai was a horrific and unspeakable sight.
With clothes, toys and snacks thrown all over the place, one can only imagine the horror the victims went through.
Shopping bags all over the crash site was a sad sight as only hours before, the victims would have been buying gifts for their loved ones as they come close to the end of their holiday.
Passenger seats were strewn all over the place, obviously due to the impact of the crash.
The two-lane road before the scene of the accident curves at a 30-degree angle, forcing many cars to slow down as they took the bend.
